A busy FAMILY HOME THAT feels
like a sanctuary.

The clients for this Brentwood custom home both work in the medical field, and from the earliest stages of the project they were clear about one thing: they wanted a home that felt calm, restorative, and grounding. With demanding careers and two young children, their goal was to create a serene retreat filled with natural textures and soft, earthy tones. While they were drawn to farmhouse warmth, they envisioned a more minimalist interpretation — one that felt pared back, timeless, and quietly comforting.

At the heart of the home is a two-storey living room anchored by a tapered plaster fireplace. Flanked by expansive two-storey windows and softened with custom wall-to-wall sheers, the space is flooded with natural light. Adjacent to the living room, the dining area and kitchen flow seamlessly, creating a flexible, connected space. Wood beams, warm wood cabinetry, and textured plaster finishes help define the area and bring a sense of intimacy within the open plan.

With two young kids, durability and functionality were essential. Every room was designed with generous, well-considered storage, with the kitchen featuring numerous hidden solutions to keep daily life running smoothly. Materials were selected with longevity in mind, including non-porous porcelain countertops, large-format tile flooring, and flat slab cabinetry that is easy to clean and built to withstand the rhythms of family life.
