COOL, CALM, AND COLLECTED:
A TEXTURAL TAKE ON FAMILY LIVING

Located in Calgary’s Coach Hill neighbourhood, this full-scale interior and exterior renovation project transformed a dark, dated, and cluttered home into a chic space tailored to family life. The original layout featured multiple dropped floor levels, tight circulation, outdated design, and minimal storage. It took some serious vision to see past the disarray and bring the home’s potential to life.

Designed for a family of four with two young boys (and Charlie, their dog!), the home needed to work hard behind the scenes. Functionality and storage were top priorities, and every square foot was put to use to support a busy household. Key architectural updates included extending the kitchen, raising all dropped floors to one consistent level, relocating numerous walls for better flow, and enclosing a previously open loft area to create a home office. A highly practical mudroom was added, and a new fireplace was installed in the front living room to create a second living space. On the upper floor, the existing layout was reconfigured to accommodate an expanded en suite bathroom (complete with steam shower and infrared sauna) and walk-in closet for the primary bedroom.

As co-owner of well-known Calgary Montessori preschool Akidemy, the client was especially committed to supporting local makers and businesses throughout the renovation. The custom white oak dining table was crafted by Mobius Objects, kitchen cabinet handles were made custom by Iconic Custom Carpentry to accent Marvel Cabinetry’s millwork, and the majority of the furniture was sourced through local shop CF Interiors. The kitchen features artwork by Calgary artist Tannis Marshall, and many of the home’s décor accessories were sourced from local boutique Very Very Shop — a reflection of the client’s deep-rooted connection to the Calgary community.

Cool, elegant, and richly layered, the interior palette weaves together greys, dusty blues, soft greens, and warm accents of terracotta and wood. The vibe is effortlessly chic — patterned and textural, but with a grounded restraint.
