A MAIN FLOOR REMASTERED:
SERENE MODERN IN DOUGLASDALE
Set in the community of Douglasdale, this family home has evolved in layers. We were first engaged during COVID to complete a renovation of the living room fireplace area, along with the basement wet bar. What began as a small update became the foundation of a trusted relationship. When the homeowners reached out again to reimagine the remainder of their main floor (including a full kitchen renovation), we were thrilled to continue the story.
The existing kitchen was distinctly rooted in the 90s : the classic corner pantry, a double-tiered island, an awkwardly-placed backsplash window, and heavily profiled white cabinetry.
Our goal was to create a space that felt both beautiful and highly functional for a family of four who loves to cook, gather, and entertain. And with no ability to expand outward (the kitchen wall could not be pushed back due to the dining room and staircase), every design decision had to work harder.
White oak cabinetry became the foundation of the design, bringing warmth and a timeless sensibility to the space. To complement the warmth of the wood, we introduced a palette of subdued, textural blues in the kitchen accents.
The reimagined island became the heart of the space. Designed with rounded edges to ease circulation, it offers a highly efficient prep surface. Significant collaboration went into how the family uses their kitchen , ensuring that storage and workflow were tailored to their routines.
Beyond the kitchen, we turned our attention to some other areas as well. The foyer staircase — the first feature visible upon entering the home — was fully updated to create a more modern first impression. A built-in entry bench adds style and function, and the powder room received a playful refresh with a funky wallpaper and concrete sink.
This renovation reflects our belief that impactful transformation doesn’t always require expanding square footage — only clarity of vision, thoughtful planning, and materials that tell a story.
