From Closed-Off to Connected:
A Warm Modern Revival IN LAKEVIEW

This main floor renovation reimagined a dated 1990s interior into a warm, functional, and colourful family hub.

The original space was emblematic of its era: a closed-off kitchen, laminate cabinetry, heavy granite countertops, and angular details galore. The kitchen blocked natural light from reaching the living space and failed to support the rhythms of modern family life.

The primary objective was to create an open-concept main floor that fostered togetherness, improved sightlines, and enhanced the natural light. By removing walls and reworking the structural elements, the home now offers visual and functional continuity between the kitchen, dining, and living areas — ideal for both entertaining and everyday family living.

At the heart of the transformation is a completely reimagined kitchen. A sophisticated blend of wood tones introduces warmth and textural depth that the previous kitchen lacked. Natural stone surfaces bring a sense of quiet luxury, while thoughtful millwork design ensures the space is as practical as it is beautiful. Hidden storage solutions are woven throughout, maintaining clean lines without sacrificing functionality. Full-height pantry cabinetry in the dining room does double duty: adding major functionality and concealing the awkward existing bump-out.

The rear nook was transformed into a sunlit retreat with a custom built-in banquette. Designed as an intimate gathering space, it invites slow mornings with coffee and casual family meals with a view to the backyard.
