A FUN + FUNKY INTERIOR THAT

JUST MAKES YOU WANNA DANCE.

Christie (or Miss Christie, as her students call her) is one of those people that you like immediately. She’s enthusiastic, peppy, and colourful, with a jovial laugh and a deep passion for her dance studio.

Summit School of Dance has been open since 2002, with locations spread around Calgary. For their newest location, Christie picked up a space nestled in a quiet corner of Cedarbrae. It had been a dance studio previously, but hadn’t been updated for many (many) years - it was grey and drab, with T-bar ceilings and dark grey carpet throughout. It needed some serious TLC.

Our goal was to keep it incredibly durable, efficient for the staff, and within the (very restrained) budget. But most importantly, we wanted to create a vibrant + exciting space for kids and adults to enjoy - one that felt fresh and new, that invited you in and made you feel welcome, that showed off all of Summit’s past achievements + inspired kids to be the next champion plaque on the wall.

The biggest change was blowing out all the T-bar ceiling in the dance studios, allowing a much higher ceiling height + exposed trusses, which were painted out in a light colour. We replaced all of the flooring, painted all the walls + casing, installed new wallpaper down the entry hallway, and converted the change room into a music studio. Pendant lights + sconces were installed in all 3 studios, significantly improving the quality and tone of the lighting. We also created a painted wainscot feature in the 3 studios - all with their own individual colour - and installed gallery walls, vinyl decals, and decor throughout.
