A WARM, STREAMLINED KITCHEN

TO FIT A FAMILY OF THREE.

S + N came to us knowing one thing for sure: their kitchen needed an overhaul. The existing space was a true throwback to the 90s, with dark wood finishes and tiered millwork that made the room feel closed-in and inefficient. In an era of light, bright, and highly functional kitchens, theirs felt dated, cluttered, and hard to work in.

They were clear about what they wanted from the start. At the top of the list was a much larger island — one that would allow them to face into the kitchen while cooking and also connect to the living room, where the TV and fireplace are located. Storage was another major priority, both in quantity and in quality, with a focus on smarter, more efficient solutions. And finally, they wanted a space that felt lighter, brighter, and easier to maintain. They were ready to say goodbye to dust-collecting shaker profiles and the many small stretches of countertop that had become magnets for clutter.

Our first major move was removing the corner pantry, which immediately opened up the layout. This allowed us to extend the countertop on either side of the range for better balance and functionality, and to introduce a wall of full-height millwork that provides generous, well-organized storage for dry goods, small appliances, and extra cookware.

We then maximized the island footprint to create ample prep space and a hub for everyday life. Wraparound seating makes it ideal for casual meals and entertaining, while deep drawers for pots and pans and integrated pull-outs for garbage and recycling keep everything within easy reach.

We kept the palette sleek and understated, allowing the natural beauty of the white oak floors and millwork to take center stage.
