WARMTH RESTORED:
A WILDWOOD BUNGALOW GETS ITS MOJO BACK

Tucked into Calgary’s Wildwood community, this 1960s bungalow renovation was an exercise in restoring soul. Though the home had been updated in the early 2000s, those changes (see Before photos below) stripped away much of its original warmth — replacing character with stainless steel, grey walls, and dark cabinetry. Our clients knew they wanted a home that felt deeply lived-in, and we knew the bones were there to bring it back to its roots.

We reimagined the main floor with a focus on warmth, texture, and thoughtful craftsmanship. The living room, previously empty, was transformed into the heart of the home. A new brick-clad fireplace with a curved natural stone hearth anchors the space, flanked by white oak built-ins. Wall-to-wall shelving houses books, vinyl storage, and a custom record station complete with display ledge.

The kitchen features custom white oak cabinetry with integrated handles, a speckled cream backsplash inspired by 1960s handmade tile, and dark terracotta pendant lights. Storage was drastically improved by adding a built-in pantry, a coffee station/bar, and a shallow cabinet above the island for glassware and hosting essentials. We incorporated small but intentional details throughout, like the curved island end, curved coffee station end, and custom tile mosaics.

Custom wood railings were built to echo the simple, honest lines of 60s and 70s homes, reinforcing a sense of continuity and care.

Both bathrooms were completely transformed from stark to joyful. In the main bath, a mix of deep rusty orange, white oak, mustard-toned terracotta tile, and striped wall tiles create a space that feels playful and full of personality. And in the en suite, a white oak vanity, reeded shower glass, green ball pulls, and soft green sconces balance the checkered tile with calm, grounding elements.

This renovation brought warmth, character, and intention back to a once-sterile bungalow — proving that soulful interiors aren’t about sleekness or resale value, but about creating homes that feel collected, personal, and deeply human.
